On the Rock
Rising on the rock, searching for the best views, and standing out with a svelte triangular outline, the castle of Mur is rather small (to be a castle), because in it 'only' lived about twenty persons.
The place is 31 meters long; the wall, of one meter wide, has a height that varies between the 14 and 18 meters. To the west side of the church, and far away from the axis of the central nave, we find the cloister, from the XII century, with the monastic outbuildings. This atypical location is compelled by the topography of the ground because normally, the cloister rises up at the south side of the church or, exceptionally, at the north. But the Castle of Mur is marked by the rock, and this is the same reason why it does not have a moat.
When we enter to the Castle, the fresh environment provided by the shelter of a building made of stone welcomes us. Here starts the journey to the Middle Age.
